State Lemon Laws

All states in America protect the consumer with regard to defective vehicles under warranty with a respective lemon law. Many attorneys specialising in lemon lawsuits are successful in suing car manufacturers for lemon law violations all over the US and a growing number are available online.

The following is a list of some of the more popular state lemon laws around the US:

California State Lemon Law
The California State Lemon Law is an old legislation and one of the best in the country for protecting consumers against defective vehicles. The Center for Auto Safety has even named the California State Lemon Law the best in the US.

Florida Lemon Law
Florida Lemon Law was revised in 1988 making car manufacturers responsible for replacing defective vehicles, or providing refunds, if certain criteria are met. Arbitration boards were subsequently set up by the Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act and many consumers have received replacement vehicles or refunds under the act of Florida Lemon Law.

Michigan Lemon Law
A small percentage of cars sold in Michigan turn out to be lemons and the Michigan Lemon Law helps protect the consumer from manufacturers that shirk on their obligation to repair or replace the defective car under the written warranty.

New York Lemon Law
The New York New Car Lemon Law is a popular one, whereby consumers who have lemon cars that have been repaired a number of times without success during the first two years, or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first, may be entitled to a replacement vehicle or a refund.

Ohio Lemon Law
Manufacturers and dealers in Ohio must adhere to the Ohio Lemon Law or face prosecution under Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act if a problem on a vehicle is not fixed within a certain time frame. The Ohio Lemon Law also applies if the fault was discovered late in the life of the warranty.

Wisconsin Lemon Law
The Wisconsin Lemon Law says that vehicle manufacturers of cars, trucks, minivans, SUVs, RVs, campers, vans, motorcycles, boats and jet-skis must be held liable to reimburse or provide a new vehicle to the purchaser if their vehicle has a recurring fault and hasn’t been repaired in a certain period of time while under warranty.
